Dear City of Carson, California,
In the name of transparency and democracy, please allow a public vote on the NFL stadium proposed in Carson, California. It would make for bad government for the City Council to put a rubber stamp on this issue. The initiative process is highly flawed.
The people gathering signatures were paid $5 per signature. This created a condition in which the signature gatherers were being very pushy. The only thing that our citizens knew they were signing was to build the NFL stadium. There was no mention or copies available to read of the 309-page document that they were actually putting their signature on. This makes for a bad democracy if the City Council votes to skip the public vote.
AEG has already published in the L.A. Times that the plan would skip a full environmental review (which is required by the State), leaving the City of Carson possibly vulnerable to lawsuits. Please don’t bankrupt our city for the sake of the NFL. Carson is much better than that. The residents deserve better.
We are all excited by the prospect of the NFL coming. But we must safeguard our great city’s interests and its residents from big money. I am not opposed to the NFL stadium. But we need to get the best deal for our city, its businesses and its people.
Sincerely,
Senor Erik
