I came across an awesome natural health forum today (Natmedtalk.com.) With posts numbering in the tens-of-thousands, this forum is likely to have a few posts of interest to the reader. In fact, my first click led me to an interesting article about the so-called “Marshall Protocol.” The poster was warning of the risks of this treatment for “Th1 diseases such as sarcoidosis, Lyme disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.” This was of interest to me as I have suffered with rheumatoid arthritis since childhood.

I would definately recommend use of this forum, however just be careful when it comes to miraculous cures for disease. Not that the site is filled with snake-oil salesmen or anything, lol, but I know that many treatments have their own side effects that each person should educate themselves about. It is up to the individual to be their own advocate when it comes to healthcare.

Economic Downturn’s Effect on Websites

The current economic crisis is creating downtime on company websites according to this article over at blog.mon.itor.us. According to the blog article, the reason behind this website downtime is more and more companies are reducing costs and staff.

“50,400 hours or 2100 days more downtime each month”

Wow, that’s a lot of downtime.

H1N1 Flu Virus

I read an interesting article about the H1N1 flu virus on a cool natural health blog. It mentions:

“we should not become consumed with worry about this current threat.”

I would like to add to this and say what I’ve heard about the past flu pandemics in history. I heard that previous pandemics began with a first wave such as this, but a more deadly, second wave is when the deaths pile up.

Anyway, it’s true we shouldn’t worry, just like the article on healthfellow.com said. I am sure by the time the second wave hits, (and that’s an IF it hits) doctors and scientists will have found a vaccine.

Vocabulary Software

If you are in the need of increasing your vocabulary, I ran across a cool site: Vocaboly.com. They have some cool vocabulary software. Some features include: Five vocabulary books, Word flash cards, different difficulty levels, and Multi-User support. Here is the direct link to the software Vocaboly 2.1.

The trial version is shareware. The registration fee of a single license for Vocaboly is $39.95.

You can check out vocabulary tests generated from Vocaboly. I took the tests and found out I’m a complete idiot. Maybe I could benefit from a free copy, huh Vocaboly? Please? Oh, probably not, my blog isn’t popular enough.

I knew the man that shot his two co-workers today at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. It is hard to believe that he would be capable of such an ugly act.

The longtime pharmacy tech was well loved by all his co-workers and patients.

On this, the second anniversary of the Virginia Tech massacre, this shooting hit me personally. I really wonder what triggered this. According to the news it was rumors of a layoff in June. This goes to show that you never truly know what your fellow neighbor is capable of.

It’s strange and it almost seems cliche when you read the news like this. They always interview the neighbor that says, “He was such a nice man, I can’t believe it.”

Federal Agency to Ignore California About it’s Own State Park

The U.S. Department of Energy is moving forward on a plan to override California’s state utility regulators when it comes to building massive power lines through Anza Borrego State Park. “The department turned down multiple requests to reconsider its designation in October of a ‘National Interest Electric Transmission Corridor’ covering 10 counties in Southern California and western Arizona,” according to this article in the San Diego Union-Tribune. Citizens are worried are worried this might be a landgrab on the part of the power companies and developers.

Wonderful. Now California doesn’t even have a say when it comes to building power lines right through it’s own state park? This is a violation of states’ rights if I’ve ever seen one. Hopefully they will have some good sense not to destroy the land our forefathers had the good sense to protect.

Yaqui Well: My Experience in this Mysterious and Magical Place

Imagine this: you’re in the middle of the desert camping. You step outside your tent and you see a storm that is about 30 miles away. Overhead the sky is blue; the sun is shining. A rainbow stretches out in the sky, sinking into the mountain next to you. The wind is blowing hard and you can actually feel raindrops hitting your face. But from where? The storm clouds so far away? Incredible. This was my experience waking up one April morning at Yaqui Well campground in Anza Borrego.

One of the great things about Anza Borrego State Park is free camping. Unlike most state and national parks, there is no entrance fee there. You can basically camp anywhere you’d like in the park (as long as you’re a little bit away from the road.) There are though, a few undeveloped campgrounds available, such as Yaqui Well.

Located near the junction of Highway 78 and S-3, this quiet, picturesque area is across from the pay campground Tamarisk Grove. Legend has it that the well is haunted. With the ghost story fresh in my mind, I can honestly say that I was a little nervous that night. There were only about three people in the whole campground area: my friend, another camper we had seen earlier, and I.

When I went to sleep in my cosy tent, I awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of violent shaking. The wind was blowing hard causing the tent to rattle, but it felt and sounded like someone was standing outside doing it. It was almost if there were angry spirits that didn’t want us to be there.

But when morning came, it was so beautiful outside. There’s a nice trail that surrounds the campground. For birdwatchers, there’s plenty of opportunities in the area. This oasis in the desert has plenty of vegetation due to the groundwater present near the well. All in all it was quite an experience for me visiting this spot for the first time.

Wildflower Season Hits Anza Borrego

Visitors to Anza Borrego State Park are in for a treat this time of the year. Park botanists are predicting the peak of the wildflower season will happen in the first two weeks of March.

This vast desert park, located east of San Diego, California has had 4.38 inches of rainfall since July 1st. “Though still below normal, the rain has been perfectly timed and of the gentle, soaking sort that gives us hope for a good wildflower season,” says the park’s website.

The Anza Borrego State Park covers a massive area of Southern California, reaching the Mexican-American border. Those flower-hunters planning on visiting the park would be advised to check out the Wildflower Report which will inform them of the best areas to catch a glimpse of these beauties.

Bush Mocks America With Comment About $4-a-Gallon Gas

Today, President Bush has once again shown he has little regard for the common American. His response when asked about the expected $4 per gallon price this summer: “That’s interesting, I hadn’t heard that.” What?! The president of the United States, right in the middle of the downward spiral of the economy, with all his big oil ties says he hasn’t heard of it?

So instead of questioning the oil companies, his solution to help Americans with the high price of gasoline is for congress to make his first-time tax cuts permanent. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t see any of those tax cuts.

What a slap in the face to the average American.
